Indian Visa

A VISA Certificate is a stamp marked certificate on the applicant's passport by the immigration authorities of a country to indicate that the applicant's credentials have been verified and he or she has been granted permission to enter the country for a temporary stay within a specified period.

Foreign Nationals desirous of coming into India are required to possess a valid passport of their country and a valid Indian Visa. The Consular Passport and Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs is responsible for issuance of Indian visas to the foreign nationals for their visit for various purposes. This facility is granted through various Indian missions abroad.

Visa fees are non-refundable and subject to change without notice. The High Commission reserves the right on granting and deciding type/duration of visa irrespective of the fees tendered at the time of making application. Granting of Visa does not confer the right of entry to India and is subject to the discretion of the Immigration Authorities.

There is provision of 'Visa on Arrival' in India for 11 selected countries like 1.Finland 2.Japan 3.Luxembourg 4.New Zealand 5.Singapore 6. Cambodia 7. Vietnam 8. Philippines 9. Laos 10.Myanmar 11.Indonesia and $60 is charged as fee for immigration facilities at the airports. Foreign passengers should ensure that they are in possession of valid Indian Visa before they start their journey to India.

Gratis (free of charge) Visa are issued to those holding Diplomatic or Official passports and to persons of the following nationalities: Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, Hungary, Jamaica, Maldives, Mauritius, Mongolia, Poland, Republic of Slovakia, South Africa and Uruguay

Visa Application Process

Indian visa can be applied online by visiting https://indianvisaonline.gov.in (External website that opens in a new window). Applicant can visit the mentioned website and select the Indian mission from where he intends to apply for Indian visa, and gets their visa application submitted receiving an auto generated file no as acknowledgement. After submitting application applicant needs to take printout of the application and visit Indian mission with required documents and visa fees, although visa fees can also be submitted online at the time of application.

Visa application form is available at the office of Indian Embassy in the country where the NRI/PIO resides. Visa form for nationals of Pakistan and Bangladesh are generally different. All NRIs/PIOs, including children (who don't possess OCI or PIO card) need to apply for Visa in separate visa forms.
