The Ministry of Human Resource Development (External website that opens in a new window) operates a Centrally Sponsored Plan Scheme viz., National Merit Scholarship Scheme (File referring to external site opens in a new window) through States/UTs, under which 100 per cent financial assistance is provided to meritorious students from rural areas studying in classes IX and X. Besides, scholarship is also provided to all the meritorious students on state-wise merit, including students from rural areas, studying from the post-metric to the post-graduate level. The rate of scholarship varies from Rs.250 to Rs.750, depending on course of study. Under the Scheme of Scholarship to Students from Non-Hindi Speaking States for Post-Matric Studies in Hindi, the rate of scholarship ranges from Rs.00 to 1000 per month.
The Government provides scholarships to Indian scholar for Post Graduate/Research/Post Doctoral studies abroad on the basis of offers received from foreign Government under the various Cultural/Educational Exchange Programmes. The details of offers and other conditions are given wide publicity in the leading newspapers while inviting applications for scholarship and are available on Department's website www.education.nic.in (External website that opens in a new window).The amount and other facilities provided by foreign governments varies from country to country and time to time.
