DescriptionThe global financial crisis has unprecedented implications for the State of Kerala. The nature of the crisis calls for formulation of new schemes aimed at supporting cash crop farmers in the State. It is in this context that a major commodity safety net scheme has been introduced in order to mitigate the effect of the global financial crisis on the agrarian economy of the State. Support to bridge a percentage of the loss of income incurred by the small/marginal farmers due to crisis, input support, market support and facilitation of credit are the major components of the scheme. In the first phase, the scheme will be implemented on a package approach to affected farmers in the State who cultivate spices, arecanut and coffee. The total outlay of this scheme is Rs.1000.00 lakh
