The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has been created under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act.1971. The Corporation was duly constituted in 1974 in the first meeting of the elected councillors as per provision of Sec.45 of this Act. The Corporation is headed by a council of 60 elected Ward Commissioners. The council is headed by a Mayor and a Deputy Mayor. There are five standing committees of the council to supervise various works.

Patna Municipal Corporation was established on the 15th August 1952, in accordance with The Patna Municipal Corporation Act, 1951. It came into being with the merger of the 88 year Old Patna City Municipality and the 35 year old Patna Administration Committee with more powers and responsibilities.

The ''Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan'' or Vadodara Municipal Corporation or VMC, was established in July 1950 under the Bombay Provincial Corporation Act, 1949. The corporation is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city of Vadodara.

The Municipality of State of Jammu and Kashmir was established after the reforms undertaken by Lord Rippan in the first quarter of 19th Century. The development of Modern Municipal Committees of the State was initiated by First Municipal Act of 1886 followed by amended act of 1889. Under this Act two Municipalities of Jammu and Srinagar were established for the first time.

Jammu Municipality was first constituted in 1942 and later in 1893 a separate department known as Municipal Administration and Jails was setup.

On the 51st Republic Day of India, the State Legislature passed the J & K Municipal Corporation Act 2000 for the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar which got the Status of Jammu Municipal Corporation.

Meghalaya

Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is a hill town in the north eastern part of India. It is situated at an altitude of 1496 meters above sea level. On 15th November, 1980, Shillong was upgraded from station to Municipality and the Lieutenant Governor agreed sanction and extension of the Bengal Municipal Act in Shillong Municipality on 01-01-1911 and on 1917 the area within the Municipal area included not only British portion but the Mylliem State portion also.

Mizoram

Mizoram is a mountainous region, which became the 23rd state of the Indian Union in February 1987. It was one of the districts of Assam till 1972 when it became a Union Territory. With the implementation of the North-Eastern Reorganisation Act in 1972, Mizoram became a Union Territory and as a sequel to the signing of the historic memorandum of settlement between the Government of India and the Mizo National Front in 1986, it was granted statehood on 20 February, 1987. During the year 1979, it was seen that the town is growing beyond expatiation and the population of the town increased up to one lakh and the prominent National Highway-5, South East Railway etc., were taken major roll for expansion of Bhubaneswar town. Thus it was given the status of a Municipality, however with the growth of population and addition of new villages to the Municipality, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation came in force in 1994.

Tripura

Tripura is one of the seven states in the north eastern part of India.
